The Institute for Conscious Awareness
Hypnotherapy Certification Course
Text and Class
Reading the course text, Clinical Hypnotherapy: A Transpersonal Approach, By Dr.
Allen S. Chips, before the hypnotherapy course begins will provide the student with
an understanding of concepts and definitions of subjects to be covered in this
100-hour course.
The 100-hours will be divided as follows: 20 hours of in class discussion of text
materials and in class practice; 3 hours of seminar attendance; 7 hours of outside
lab work on in-class projects; 70 hours of post class experience including book
work, induction, research assignment and final exam.
Approximately 95% of the final exam is based on information from within the course
text. 100% of the test material can be located for study within the “training Manual.”
Approximately 50% of the material presented during the course is derived from
information sources outside of the text, such as experiential learning, therapeutic
interventions, case histories, professional policy, research and practiced
methodology.
Scholastic requirements for Certification: The final exam is open book, multiple
choice. It will be handed out at the beginning of class and is due near the end of
class, is when it will be graded. The research assignment (3-5 pages) and the
Induction Assignment (assigned in class) may be turned=2 0in at anytime within 30
days of the last day of class (or before the class ends.) In order for certification to
be issued, tuition must be paid in full and four grading categories must be fulfilled:
1. the research assignment; 2. the induction assignment; 3. the final exam (80%
correct or better); 4 the attendance requirement (75%). If you have specific
questions, please feel free to ask a member of the Awareness Institute staff. Turn in
Assignments to the AIH administration or mail assignments to The Awareness
Institute of Hypnotherapy Inc. home office. (**************)
Research Assignment
The Assignment is due within 30 days of the end of class. Choose a book that
contains information relation to a specific interest you have within the field of
hypnotherap y. If there is any question as to its direct relationship to hypnotherapy,
get approval form the instructor or administration before you begin. After reading,
answer the following questions in five handwritten pages or three double-spaced
typed pages.
Include the following information:
1. Which of the author’s methods do you believe is the most effective in producing
positive results? Give a case history or example from the book.
2. As a hypnotherapist, which techniques discussed in the book do you plan to
utilize and which will you avoid using? Why?
3. Summarize the book.
Please hand in your assignment stapled in the upper left-hand corner without a
folder. Include a title page with the following information: title of book; author; and
your name; date of completion. Please number your pages in the lower right hand
corner and leave to back of each page blank. This may seem rudimentary, but,
proper sentence structure, grammar and spelling is required.
Induction Assignment
The induction assignment is due within 30 days of the end of class, or before.
The induction created during the in-class portion of this course can be turned in for
completion of this assignment. Other options include:
1. Create your own induction: Many individuals have experience with an induction
that they have been using prior to taking this course. One may submit this induction,
or modify it with information obtained from the class.< /div>
2. Revise one in the manual: One may use an induction in the manual as the basis
for the induction. By changing the specific terms and phrasing one can create a
more personalized induction that may better suit the needs of clients in a specific
area. The changes can also help to make the delivery more natural.
Grading Criteria:
A. Sensory Modal ities- In the imagery used, were the visual, auditory, kinesthetic,
and possibly the olfactory and gustatory channels implement?
B. Mixed Method- Were both mental (imagery) and physical (progressive relaxation)
methods utilized?
C. Deepening Techniques- Which techniques do you plan on using on a consistent
basis? Where will these techniques be placed in your personalized induction?
