Manifesting a Better Self Image with Mirrors
Kimmie Rose Zapf

You can resolve inner conflicts by simply looking in a mirror and recognizing the different parts of yourself. We all have them. I call them the reflective parts of our self and I have heard others call them sub-personalities.

These are the parts of our self that go through different stages as we grow and take on experiences that play a significant role in defining certain values and "fight or flight tendencies." When people have difficulty in achieving prosperity, love, or joy it is usually because these different parts of their personality are at war with each other.

Many of us see our personality as a single unit. However, it is much more extensive than that. As we grow, we take on different ways of thinking and valuing things. We grow out of our experiences and the roles we have played throughout our lives. This affects how we think and the way we respond to life.

Our reflective parts include:

The Inner Child: Reflects the feelings and attitudes of the child you once were. I often see a person show this part of themselves when they feel they are not pleasing someone. They often revert back to the feeling of being a child and not feeling good enough.

The Teenage Self: Reflects the feelings, attitudes and values that were formed by the teenager you once were. I have observed people reverting back to this self by taking on a detached mode and getting into the state that says, "I am not listening to what you have to say-I know the answer." This happens when they feel pushed or when they feel that they are wrong about something.

The Male-Female/Female-Male Self: We each carry within us both male and female energy in our thoughts and beliefs that affects our personality. This is in essence, the opposite side of our self. A man will treat a woman how he has treated women in his life. He will also react depending on the amount of women he has had in his life. A female will treat a male how she has related to men in her life. She also will react according to how her father treated her.

The Parent Mother/Father Self: This is the voice of the mother and father that lies in your subconscious mind that stimulates your senses based on the feelings you received from yourself. Many times these feelings are stored in the subconscious mind until a person grows older. When they get older, often these feelings are stored in the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind keeps things until the individual is ready to remember them.

The Reflective Outer Part: This is how others see you and what you are willing to show them.

The Reflective Inner Part: This is who you are-in essence, "the real you."

How do we achieve balance and harmony? We achieve this balance when all parts of ourselves are integrated into the present time in harmony. We can start by identifying these parts.

To identify these parts and achieve harmony, take 10 minutes a day and look into a mirror. When you look into the mirror, speak to yourself. Begin with a short sentence that you can repeat, adding a new ending to each time.

Examples of these sentences are:
o Being happy means…
o Being a male means…
o As a child, being heard meant…
o My mother taught me that achieving my goals was something that…
o My father taught me that achieving my goals was something that…
o Achieving my goals and being successful to my reflective inner part means...
o Achieving my goals and being successful to my reflective outer part means...
o One of the ways I get through each day is…
o I survived growing up by…

As they suggest themselves, make up sentence endings. Completing these sentences in front of a mirror makes a person become honest with themselves because our faces show true feelings when responding to these answers. Reactions make us more aware.

It has been my experience that after a person does this for two to three minutes, they begin to release and let go of old patterns and are able to feel themselves. They are able to manifest a better self-image because they recognize how they feel. This is a great way to get to know yourself better. I recommend doing this once a day.

Good luck! Remember, our eyes are the mirrors to your soul.
